U.S. and Nigerian troops kill top ISIS leader

(CNN, KYMA) - President Donald Trump says U.S. and Nigerian forces killed a senior commander in the ISIS militant group Friday.

In a social media post, he said at his direction, they eliminated the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield.

President Trump named the target as Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, and said he was second in command of isis globally.

U.S. Africa Command released video of the strike on social media writing, "Last night's operation targeted a significant presence of ISIS fighters in Northeastern Nigeria eliminating multiple high value individuals including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki."

This is not the first fatal strike Trump has ordered on alleged Islamic state militants in Nigeria.

He's accused the militants of persecuting christians in the West African country.

In December, Trump said he had directed a strike against ISIS in Northwestern Nigeria, who he said had been killing innocent christians.
