Mother of child who died after being left inside hot car for 12 hours in Mexicali faces prison time

RadioPatrulla

MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA) - The mother of the child who died after being left inside a hot car for 12 hours in Mexicali is facing major prison time if she's found guilty.

According to the Baja California Attorney General's Office, prosecutors are seeking 15 years in prison against the 40-year-old mother.

During Tuesday's hearing, KYMA learned she had allegedly consumed alcohol when she left the three-year-old in her car.

It was also learned that after she left the child inside, she took a shower and was even posting on social media.

"We detected activities from her, from 11 PM until approximately 1:30 a.m. I can't specify more because this is part of the evidence that will be presented at the hearing, but these actions indicate that she was fully conscious," said Maria Elena Andrade, Baja California Attorney General.

The woman remains in pre-trial detention, and a hearing, scheduled for Saturday, will determine whether she will remain in custody.
