Child dies after left in hot car in Mexicali

KYMA

MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA) - A three-year-old boy died after being left inside a hot car in Mexicali, now his mother is behind bars.

A family member reported the child after finding him unresponsive inside the vehicle.

It happened Saturday afternoon.

The child’s mother was taken into custody.

Mexicali police say she had gone out the night before and forgot the child inside the car.

A forensic doctor determined that the child may have remained inside the vehicle for up to 12 hours, which led to his death.

"The child's body shows no signs of violence; he has first-degree burns on his thighs and forearms caused by the heat to which he was exposed. We determined that he died from heatstroke," said Cesar Vaca, director of the Forensic Medical Service.

The mother has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.
