The baseball and softball postseasons have arrived

Baseball play-in and playoff action starts Wednesday evening

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Postseason play has arrived for baseball and softball teams across Yuma County, with several programs set to compete in play-in games beginning Wednesday.

In Class 6A baseball, Kofa and San Luis will meet for the third time this season with a postseason berth on the line.

The Sidewinders won both regular-season matchups in the rivalry, 2-1 and 3-1. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at Kofa High School.

In Class 4A, Yuma High moved up one spot to the No. 12 seed despite a loss to Kofa, earning a home play-in game.

The Criminals will host Arcadia at 4 p.m. at Curly Culp Memorial Stadium, with the winner advancing to the state bracket.

Yuma Catholic has already secured its position in the 3A playoffs. The Shamrocks improved their standing with a 12-2 win over Chino Valley and had the No. 2 seed in the latest rankings.

If the Rocks ranking remains, they will host throughout the early rounds. Yuma Catholic is scheduled to play next Tuesday at 4 p.m.

On the softball side, Cibola enters postseason play after a dominant 17-0 win over Youngker, improving to 17-11-1. The Raiders are seeded No. 17 and will travel to face Corona del Sol for a play-in matchup.

Yuma Catholic’s softball team earned a top-eight seed after finishing the regular season 24-5-1. The Lady Shamrocks avoided the play-in round and will host a first-round game Saturday at 11 a.m.

In Class 1A, Antelope secured a playoff berth and will open the playoffs on the road against a higher-seeded opponent.

With multiple teams in contention, Yuma County programs will look to extend their seasons as the state playoffs get underway.
