Hot air balloon hits casino in California

ELK GROVE, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - Strong winds sent a hot air balloon slamming into the side of a California casino Monday afternoon.

It happened in Elk Grove as Sky River Casino was celebrating a groundbreaking for a new hotel.

Footage captured shows the basket of the balloon hit the side of the building, at one point reaching a 90-degree-angle.

Police and Sky River Casino said the balloon pilot made the unplanned launch due to the wind conditions.

The balloon kept going, attempting to descend for a landing, then aborting the effort and climbing back into the sky before eventually landing in a field.

The pilot was not injured and there were no other passenger on board, and police said the FAA and NTSB were notified about the incident.
