MoDOT warns drivers with crash compilation video

(CBS, KYMA) - The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) released footage showing the necessity of protective barriers around its road crews, saying a total of 50 drivers crashed into buffer vehicles over the course of a year.

According to the department, "These protective vehicles with truck/trailer-mounted attenuators (TMA) serve as a warning to traffic approaching a temporary mobile work zone. The TMA includes a message board and lights to warn/advise motorists of the work zone."

MoDOT shared footage of five moments in which drivers crashed into such a trailer, adding this kind of crash was seen 50 times last year.

The footage includes crashes from June 2024 up until November 2025.

"Distracted driving puts every life on the road at risk," MoDOT said. "Make the right choice behind the wheel – stay focused. Never drive distracted."

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, "These attenuators are designed to absorb any impact that may happen during a work-zone traffic encroachment...this provides a buffer space between the traveling public and our workers."
