Mexico eliminates 72-hour waiting period before searching for missing people

KYMA

MEXICO (KYMA) - Mexico has eliminated the 72-hour wait period to begin searching for missing people, launching search efforts immediately after a report is filed.

The change is part of an updated national search protocol aimed at improving response times and saving lives.

In cities like San Luis, Mexico, where disappearances remain a serious concern, this new measure is expected to make a meaningful difference.

"With this new law, we can increase the chances of finding people alive. Immediate action is essential, because during a search the most important thing is to act quickly waiting 72 hours was too long.," said Monica Espinoza.

This has been a long-standing demand from search collectives and human rights organizations.
