Hot air balloon lands in California couple’s backyard

TEMECULA, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - It was a morning wake-up call a Temecula, California couple wasn't expecting when a hot air balloon basket full of people made an emergency landing in their backyard.

Hunter and Jenna Perrin got a notification from their backyard camera at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by a neighbor knocking on their door to alert them about the balloon.

"Someone knocked at the door and I opened up the door and he goes, 'They just landed in your backyard.' I was like, 'What do you mean?' And he goes, 'The balloons.' I was like, at first I was thinking like, 'Is this a neighbor who lost a balloon and it went in my backyard and they want me to get it?'" Hunter shared.

The couple says the pilot had to make the emergency landing because the winds died down, prompting the balloon to hover and run out of fuel.

"It all kind of, it was so, such an odd event it was really hard to kind of keep track of time," Hunter remarked.

The spectacle brought out the whole neighborhood, and the balloon was eventually maneuvered onto the street out front and packed up.

"We got to meet a lot of neighbors that we never met before," Jenna expressed.

"Everyone was coming out trying to see what was going on," Hunter added.

No one was injured in the incident, and there was no damage to the property. To watch more of the story from the Perrins, click here.
