Bahamas authorities release husband of missing American woman

(NBC, KYMA) - Authorities in the Bahamas have released a Michigan man who was detained after his wife disappeared at sea.

Brian Hooker, whose wife Lynette disappeared during a nighttime boat ride in the Bahamas earlier this month, was released from custody Monday after five days of detention.

The 59-year-old had been taken into custody last Wednesday by Bahamian authorities for questioning in connection with his wife's disappearance.

He has denied any involvement in what happened.

Lynette Hooker, 55, remains missing, with officials saying the operation to locate her has now moved from a search and rescue effort to a search and recovery mission, signaling growing concerns about the outcome.

Authorities have not announced any charges, and the investigation remains ongoing as crews continue efforts to locate her.
