Diamondbacks fall 4-3 to Mets in extras

Arizona's comeback bid fell short after the Mets mounted a comeback of their own

NEW YORK (KYMA) - The Arizona Diamondbacks let a late lead slip away and fell to the New York Mets 4-3 in 10 innings to open their East Coast road trip.

Arizona, which entered the night at .500, looked in control after a strong fifth inning but couldn't hold off a late push from New York at Citi Field.

The Diamondbacks broke through in the top of the fifth. Adrian Del Castillo lined a ball into right field that drove in two runs, tying the game at 2-2 as Geraldo Perdomo came around to score.

Later in the inning, Arizona took the lead. Nolan Arenado dropped a blooper into shallow left field that fell between converging Mets fielders, allowing another run to score and giving the Diamondbacks a 3-2 advantage.

That lead held until the eighth.

In the bottom of the inning, New York's Jared Young lifted a fly ball to right field that was caught by Corbin Carroll, but it was deep enough to bring home Tyrone Taylor and tie the game at 3-3.

The Mets completed the comeback in extra innings.

In the 10th, Ronny Mauricio delivered the game-winning hit, sending a ball over Carroll's head in right field to drive in Francisco Lindor and secure the 4-3 victory.

With the loss, Arizona dropped to 5-6 on the season.

The Diamondbacks will look to bounce back when they face the Mets again Wednesday afternoon.
