Police cordon off car used by driver in Lao New Year parade crash

BROUSSARD, La. (CBS, KYMA) - A car was cordoned off and its driver arrested after striking multiple people during a Lao New Year parade in Iberia Parish, Louisiana Saturday, according to officials.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office said it happened during a parade near Savannakhet Street and Melancon Road, where a crowd had gathered for the annual celebration.

At least 19 people were injured, according to a KATC report. Acadian Ambulance reported that two victims were airlifted to hospital.

Louisiana State Police said the driver, identified as 57-year-old Todd Landry of Jeanerette, was taken into custody and charged with impaired driving, multiple counts of negligent injuring, and careless operation.

Authorities added he had a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.
