Central’s Joshua Garcia commits to Arizona Christian

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) — Central High School standout Joshua Garcia is taking the next step in his football career, officially announcing his commitment to Arizona Christian University.

For Garcia, the decision came after a recruiting process that began late in the year—but quickly turned into something that felt right.

“The recruiting process started around November, December time,” Garcia said. “I went to a camp during the summer… that’s where I met the coach, and I sent him my film. He really liked what he saw.”

That connection led to an offer and ultimately, a visit that sealed the deal.

“When I visited the school, it just felt like home,” Garcia said. “They have a really good family over there… and being a Christian myself, it’s going to be nice to further my relationship with the Lord.”

Garcia starred on both sides of the ball for Central, playing wide receiver and defensive back while showcasing his versatility all season long. He finished his senior year with over 500 receiving yards and six touchdowns, while also recording five interceptions on defense.

Now at the next level, Garcia says that versatility could continue—but he already has an idea of where he fits best.

“They don’t really know where they want me yet,” Garcia said. “They definitely want me on special teams… but offense and defense, they’re leaving it up to me. I think I’m going to stick to the defensive side.”

Even with opportunities to go farther away, Garcia made it clear that staying close to home played a major role in his decision.

“I had offers from Kansas and Montana, but those were just too far,” Garcia said. “I’m a family-oriented person… it’s really nice to be only three hours away.”

Garcia also credited the Central football program and his support system for helping him reach this point.

“Coach Pena was definitely one of the ones that helped me get here,” Garcia said. “My teammates were always there for me… and my family made a lot of sacrifices to help me get to where I am today.”

As he moves on to the college level, Garcia hopes his journey can inspire the next generation of Spartans.

“It’s a great feeling to be able to help the younger guys,” Garcia said. “They ask questions, and I try to give them advice… it means a lot.”

Garcia also made sure to thank the broader Central community for their support throughout his career.

“The Central community… my teachers, my coaches, my teammates, my family—they’re all the reason I am where I am today,” Garcia said.

Now, the El Centro native turns the page to the next chapter—taking his game to Arizona Christian, where his playmaking ability and versatility will look to make an immediate impact.
