Man accused of killing Charlie Kirk asks judge to delay preliminary hearing

SALT LAKE CITY (NBC, KYMA) - New developments are emerging in a high-profile murder case out of Utah as the man accused of killing Charlie Kirk is asking a judge to delay his preliminary hearing.

Prosecutors say Tyler Robinson faces a capital murder charge in connection with the September killing at Utah Valley University.

Defense attorneys argue they have not yet received key evidence, including tens of thousands of files, as well as DNA, ballistics, and digital materials from federal agencies.

The preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for mid-May, with a judge expected to consider the delay request next month.

This comes after Robinson's attorneys filed a document to ask the judge to have cameras banned from the courtroom, with them arguing that media interest in the case is "arguably unprecedented."
