Arizona deputy charged and fired after kidnapping

TUCSON, Ariz. (CNN, KYMA) - A deputy with the Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) was fired after he was arrested on a kidnapping charge late last week.

22-year-old Travis Reynolds appeared in court Friday morning after the Tucson Police Department arrested him Thursday night for kidnapping.

According to the interim complaint, Reynolds, a now former PCSD deputy, was on duty, taking a woman to the Pima County Jail to be booked after her arrest when it happened.

The victim alleges while driving her to jail, Reynolds commented on her appearance, calling her "hot."

Once arriving at the jail, the victim alleges Reynolds kept her in his patrol vehicle which was parked in front of the jail.

She says he got out of his vehicle and moved her handcuffs from behind her back to in front of her body and then he got back in the driver's seat.

She alleges they then shared a vape pen, and while smoking, Reynolds told her he could help her with her case.

The victim says that's when Reynolds told her they could go to a hotel and have sex, and then showed her sexually explicit videos she says Reynolds appeared to be in.

According to the interim complaint, the victim said she was in the car in front of the jail for a long time, watching multiple officers coming and going with their own arrestees.

The document says she thought to herself, "Be nice. You're stuck in the back seat" and "I have no other option."

She told detectives she asked to be taken inside the jail, but Reynolds refused.

He eventually got out of his vehicle and asked her to lift her shirt and show him her breasts.

The woman told police that once she did that, he removed her from the patrol vehicle and brought her inside the jail.

According to the interim complaint, surveillance video from the Pima County Jail confirms parts of the victim's account.

It shows Reynolds' patrol vehicle arriving at the jail at 9:46 p.m., him getting out of the vehicle, re-cuffing her hands, and getting back in his vehicle and them sitting in the car until 11:26 p.m., when he eventually brings her into the jail an hour and 40 minutes later.

The document says Reynolds stated that he "may or may not have been involved in showing her a video of sexual acts."

He also stated he "may or may not have been involved in the discussion of having sex at a hotel."

Detectives viewed Reynolds' phone, and corroborated the exact details the victim provided about the sexually explicit videos.

In a statement to 13 News, Aaron Cross, the President of the Pima County Deputy's Organization, said, "Everyone's innocent until proven guilty, and if he's innocent, we hope he can come back from this. If these allegations are proven true, we are shocked and hope that he feels full weight of the justice system."
