Monday: local baseball & softball recap

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It was a strong day for Yuma-area baseball and softball programs, with several teams picking up impressive wins across Arizona on Monday.

Baseball

Starting with Gila Ridge, the Hawks went on the road and secured a 5-1 win over McClintock. After trailing early, Gila Ridge took control in the fourth inning with a two-run frame before adding three more runs in the sixth. The Hawks totaled 11 hits in the game and backed it up with solid defense to close it out.

Cibola also had an impressive showing, defeating Westwood 11-4. The Raiders broke the game open in the third inning, erupting for seven runs to take a commanding lead. Cibola finished with 15 hits and played a clean game defensively, not committing a single error.

Yuma High added another win to the column, taking down Desert Sunrise 6-4. The Criminals came out strong with three runs in the first inning and maintained the lead despite a late push from Desert Sunrise. Yuma recorded nine hits in the victory.

San Luis was involved in one of the highest-scoring games of the day but came up short against Mesa, falling 14-11. The Sidewinders had a massive second inning, putting up 11 runs, but Mesa responded with consistent offense, including a seven-run fourth inning to complete the comeback.

Softball

On the softball side, it was complete dominance from Yuma teams.

Cibola delivered one of the most lopsided wins of the day, shutting out Browne 20-0 in a run-rule victory. The Raiders piled up 14 hits and showed patience at the plate, drawing 14 walks. Multiple players contributed offensively, while the pitching staff combined for a no-hit performance with six strikeouts.

Gila Ridge matched that intensity with a 24-0 win over Somerton. The Hawks exploded early, scoring 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back. They finished with 22 hits in a game that was firmly in control from the start.

It was a statement day for Yuma-area softball, as both Cibola and Gila Ridge showcased their offensive firepower and dominance in the circle.
