Dozens of people hospitalized due to heat-related issues at air show in Arizona

MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA) - Dozens of people were hospitalized due to heat-related issues at an air show at Luke Air Force Base.

According to the Glendale Fire Department, on Sunday alone, they treated 70 people and took 12 to the hospital, while Luke Air Force Base medical staff treated 60 and took 10 to the hospital.

The extreme heat forced organizers to end the show early Saturday, but the heat was even worse with more than 400 people treated.

According to authorities, about 90% of the 400 people treated were under the age of 12, over the age of 60, or had pre-exisiting medical conditions.

The Luke Days Air Show, which takes place every other year in Glendale, was a highly-anticipated event in Arizona, which included performances by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and more.
