Matadors bounce back to win rubber match against Coyotes

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - #19 Arizona Western baseball made up for back-to-back losses to #18 College of Southern Nevada on Friday with a 10-6 win today.

The Matadors got their offense going from the get-go, scoring three runs in the first inning.

Mattia Bernardis got the start for the Matadors and got off to a slow start, allowing a run in the top of the first and three runs in the second frame. Through 4+ innings of work, he recorded five earned runs and one strikeout.

Arizona Western was able to tie the game up in the third inning off of a Luis Angulo infield single that scored Gerardo Castro after he doubled earlier in the inning.

AWC's Filippo Baldassarri took over the bump for Bernardis, and after allowing an earned run in the sixth inning, settled in with a solid performance through the eighth inning.

Between the fifth and seventh frames, the Matadors threw up six more runs to grab a comfortable lead.

Gregorys Mateo came onto the mound to close things out and improve AWC's record to 24-6 overall and 7-5 in the conference.
