Arizona Western baseball completes series sweep against Eastern Arizona

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The no. 20 Matadors baseball team continues to avoid major bumps and cruise through competition this season. A 3-2 victory over the Gila Monsters this weekend kept their season in high gear.

Eastern Arizona struck first, scoring a run in the top of the fourth with a chopping ground ball. Starting pitcher Mattia Bernardis was able to limit damage, forcing a groundout to short.

Both offenses had their bats going at that point and it only seemed like a matter of time before AWC was able to answer.

That time came in the next frame as Jamie Beerman brought home Luis Acosta to tie things up.

Beerman finished 2-3 with 2 RBIs on the day, with his other RBI coming in the seventh inning. The Matadors tacked on another run in the same inning and was able to stave off a late rally from the Monsters.

They managed to score one run in the 9th, but could not tie the game before Gregorys Mateo was called in from the bullpen to record the save.

AWC improves to 18-3 overall and 4-2 in ACCAC play.
