Instagram to alert parents of self-harm searches
(CNN, KYMA) - Instagram is taking action to help prevent potential self-harm among children.
The platform says it will notify parents if their children are found to have repeatedly looked for information related to suicide.
In a statement, Instagram's owner Meta said these alerts are "designed to give parents the information they need to support their teen."
Users have to opt it to be eligible for the alerts, which are expected to start next week in the U.S., Britain, Australia and Canada.
This comes as meta is defending itself in trials where their platforms are alleged to have caused harm to young users.
Instagram says its platform is not clinically addictive.
