Iranian media confirms Ayatollah Khamenei’s death

(NBC, KYMA) - Iranian media has confirmed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the U.S. attack earlier Saturday.

In a post on X, Iranian state TV network, Press TV, shared a picture of their supreme leader, with the caption reading, "Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei martyred in U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran."

A number of other Iranian state media outlets also reported on the Ayatollah's death.

State news agency IRIB Telegram reported he was killed while inside of his office at his compound "in the early hours of Saturday morning"

Iran is now expected to observe 40 days of mourning and seven days of holiday time to honor Khamenei's death.
