Yuma police see an increase in car burglaries

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) -The Yuma Police Department reports seeing an increase in car burglaries within the past week. Just on Monday, February 16th alone, officers say there were six car burglaries in a three hour span ranging from around 3:30 to 6:30 in the morning

They share some preventative measures to stay safe.

"Lock your vehicles, make sure windows are rolled up. Just because you have a security camera doesn't mean it's going to stop somebody from burglarizing your vehicle," said Yuma Police Department public information officer Hayato Johnson. "Take a couple minutes to lock your car to save everything that you worked so hard to receive and get for yourself."

Officers say they see a common trend of cars left unlocked.
