No. 20 San Luis stuns No. 13 Cienega on the road, advances with 2-0 shutout
VAIL, Ariz. KYMA, KECY) - No. 20 San Luis made a statement on the road Wednesday night, knocking off No. 13 Cienega 2-0 in the opening round of the state playoffs.
The visiting Sidewinders delivered a composed performance away from home, capitalizing on their scoring chances and locking down defensively to secure the upset victory.
Rodrigo Cordova opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, breaking through to give San Luis the early edge. Jose Terriquez later added another unassisted strike to provide insurance, putting the Sidewinders firmly in control.
On the defensive end, goalkeeper Gael Obregón anchored the effort, recording a clean sheet and shutting down Cienega’s attack to preserve the two-goal lead.
With the win, San Luis advances to the next round and will travel to face No. 4 Verrado on Friday as they look to continue their postseason run.
