Cooler, more active weather pattern moves in

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A noticeable change in the weather pattern is taking shape across the Desert Southwest, bringing cooler temperatures and increasing rain chances as the week progresses.
Cloud cover continues to build across the region as a series of weather systems approach from the west. While temperatures remain above normal through midweek, highs will trend downward, reaching the upper 70s to low 80s across the lower deserts, with cooler readings in higher elevations.
Most of the Desert Southwest will stay dry through Wednesday, though a few sprinkles or areas of virga are possible, mainly over higher terrain east of Phoenix. Any precipitation during this time is expected to be light, with little to no accumulation.
The best chance for rain arrives late Thursday into Friday as another storm system moves through the region. Rain chances will be highest across eastern portions of the Desert Southwest, while lower desert areas will see more scattered coverage. Along with the system, temperatures will cool closer to seasonal norms, with highs around 70 degrees across the south-central deserts by Friday.
Conditions briefly quiet down over the weekend with drier weather and slightly warmer temperatures. However, another storm system is expected early next week, bringing the potential for more widespread rain and another round of cooler air across the Desert Southwest.
Overall, the region is entering a more unsettled February pattern, with multiple chances for rain and temperatures trending closer to average in the days ahead.
