Yuma County basketball teams set to open postseason play

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Postseason basketball tips off this week for several Yuma County teams, with home matchups and key road tests highlighting the opening round of the playoffs.

On the boys' side, Yuma Catholic opens postseason play at home Friday night, hosting Sabino at 7 p.m. The Shamrocks enter the playoffs in strong form after dominating their region with a 9-0 record and riding a six-game winning streak.

Friday's matchup marks their first playoff test as they look to keep the momentum rolling and make another deep postseason run.

Antelope boys basketball also begins playoff action Friday, hosting Red Mesa at 5 p.m. The Rams have put together a solid season and will look to take advantage of home-court advantage as they aim to advance.

In girls basketball, San Pasqual Valley hosts Ray on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Warriors are looking to bounce back after a close loss last week and make a statement in their playoff opener.

Yuma Catholic girls basketball hits the road Tuesday night to face San Carlos at 7 p.m. The Shamrocks enter their first-round matchup on a hot streak and will look to carry that momentum as they begin their push toward the state tournament.

For all four teams, the journey toward a state title begins this week, setting the stage for an exciting start to the postseason for Yuma County basketball fans.
