Heavy rain, thunderstorms and powerful winds knocks out power, damages homes in Hawaii

HONOLULU (NBC, KYMA) - Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and powerful winds knocked out power and damaged homes and trees in Hawaii.

Crews are responding to several incidents triggered by the severe weather across the state, including one neighborhood where a large tree toppled and hoisted up a car.

Hawaiian Electric is urging customers to prepare for potential extended power outages.

Forecasters say there's a potential for dangerous weather though Monday. Wind has been particularly powerful in West Maui, which saw gusts upwards of 70 miles per hour.
