Border Patrol agents involved in the shooting of Alex Pretti placed on administrative leave
(NBC, KYMA) - The Border Patrol agents involved in the shooting of Alex Pretti are on administrative leave.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin confirmed they were placed on leave Wednesday. The agents have not been publicly identified.
The announcement came the same day the department distanced itself from its initial statement on the shooting.
According to a department spokesperson, the initial statement was based on reports from "a very chaotic scene."
Shortly after the shooting Saturday DHS said Pretti "violently resisted" Customs and Border Protection, and appeared to want to "massacre law enforcement."
A department spokesperson now says an investigation is underway and "DHS will let the facts lead the investigation."
