Coaching Carousel: Minter to Ravens, Campanile takes second interview with Cardinals

Former Chargers DC Jesse Minter is headed to the Ravens while Cardinals also look for defensive minded coach in Anthony Campanile

BALTIMORE/GLENDALE (KYMA) - Former Chargers Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter is heading back to the Baltimore Ravens, where his coaching career started in 2017 as a defensive assistant.

As of late though, this will be a change of scenery for Minter, a coach that worked under Jim Harbaugh the past four seasons, two at Michigan and the last two in Los Angeles.

Despite being the front runner for the position, the official hiring came 16 days after Baltimore fired John Harbaugh, the franchise's winningest head coach.

Minter's defense expertise is a change of coaching style for the Ravens. John was a special teams coordinator while the coaches before him where offensive minds, but the goal is all the same. The hope is for Minter to propel Baltimore on a playoff run.

Last season with the Chargers, the Little Rock native guided them to the NFL's fifth ranked defense in yards per game, and the year before that, he led the league with the fewest points allowed.

The 42-year-old is becoming the 4th head coach in Ravens history, and their youngest ever after inking a 5-year contract.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals brought in Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive Coordinator Anthony Campanile for his second interview on Thursday, according to NFL's Ian Rapoport.

Campanile doesn't have the longest NFL resume with his only year as a defensive coordinator this past year in Jacksonville.

He does, however, have some big time results to go off of in his lone year as the DC with Jacksonville ranking first in rushing yards allowed, 11th in fewest yards allowed, and eighth in fewest points allowed.

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady and Los Angeles Rams OC Mike LaFleur are also in the mix, but with Campanile being the only candidate to take a second interview, sources believe he is the most likely to secure the job.
