Arizona men’s basketball earns unanimous No. 1 ranking for first time
TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA) - Arizona men's basketball reached a historic milestone Monday, earning a unanimous No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time in program history.
The Wildcats improved to 18-0 on the season with wins over Arizona State and UCF last week and received all 61 first-place votes in the latest poll.
Arizona has now held the top spot for six consecutive weeks, marking the program’s longest No. 1 run since the 2013-14 season.
After opening the year ranked 13th in the preseason poll, Arizona steadily climbed the rankings before taking over the top spot on Dec. 8 a position it hasn't relinquished since.
The Wildcats are one of just three undefeated teams remaining nationwide and have been ranked No. 1 for the 45th time since the AP poll began in 1949.
Arizona returns home this week, hosting Cincinnati Wednesday night before welcoming West Virginia Saturday afternoon in a pair of nationally televised matchups.
