BBC to ask Florida court to dismiss President Trump’s defamation lawsuit

(CNN, KYMA) - The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has told a Florida court it will move to have President Donald Trump's defamation lawsuit dismissed.

President Trump filed the $10 billion lawsuit last month. It centers around a documentary where the network edited clips of his January 6 speech.

The edit made it appear Trump instructed protesters to walk to the capitol to "fight like hell." That call to fight was separate from his suggestion to walk to the U.S. Capitol.

The BBC's filing hinges on three arguments.

First, it claims since the documentary was not produced or aired in Florida, the state court has no jurisdiction. It also says trump can not prove the documentary caused him harm, and finally, the BBC argues the documentary was not aired with "actual malice."

Public figures like the president have a higher standard than regular people when it comes to proving defamation.

One of the components involves showing the alleged defamer intended harm.
