Record-breaking flooding hits community in California

KING SALMON, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - Residents in the small community of King Salmon, California experienced flooding that hit a nearly 50-year high.

The flooding was made worse after it caused a sewage overflow. However, Humboldt County community services arrived to remove as much waste as possible.

According to First District Supervisor Rex Bohn, the town experienced "extreme flooding," and residents who have lived in King Salmon for decades are "seeing water in their backyards that they've never seen."

Officials are advising against onlookers gathering to observe the flooding as they say this can make it more difficult for first responders to do their job.

The Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services also urged the community to avoid the King Salmon area if you do not reside there.

Anyone whose home has been damaged by flooding or is in need of emergency shelter should contact the American Red Cross at 800-733-2777.
