Women directed fewer top-grossing films in 2025, study says

(CNN, KYMA) - A new study shows the number of female directors behind Hollywood's top films dropped significantly in 2025.
Only nine of the top 100 domestic hits were directed by women. That's a decrease from 13% in 2024 to just 8% this year.
The report found Paramount, Warner Bros. and Lionsgate did not hire a single female director for the films included in the study.
Researchers say the decline isn't due to a lack of talent. In fact, critics gave films directed by women similar or higher ratings than those directed by men.
