Three dead in abandoned home fire in West Virginia

HUNTINGTON, W.V. (CBS, KYMA) - Three people were found dead inside an abandoned home Tuesday morning, according to Huntington Fire Chief Greg Fuller.

The original call came in around 5:45 a.m. Eastern for a report of a fire in the area of West Eighth Street, right at the corner of Virginia Avenue.

The Huntington Fire Department, Huntington Police Department and the West Virginia State Fire Marshal all responded to the scene.

As of noon, Chief Fuller says crews were still at the house investigating and working to identify the individuals found inside before the bodies can be removed.

According to Fuller, the home was abandoned.

"We just need everybody to be safe, and if you are in proximity to an abandoned structure, and you notice activity, please report that activity," Fuller says. "If you're in your home, and you're utilizing a space heater, please be very careful with space heaters and other heating devices."
