Barnes & Noble to open 60 stores across the U.S. in 2026

(CBS, KYMA) - Barnes & Noble told USA Today they plan to open 60 new stores in 2026.

The book-selling giant has seen nearly two decades of declining sales but has recently grown in popularity again, with a large portion of the success due to BookTok.

"Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful," the bookstore chain said in a statement to USA Today. "In 2024, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019."

According to a list obtained by USA TODAY, the bookseller plans to open stores in Ohio, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Colorado, Washington state, California, Virginia, Georgia and D.C., but full details are still being worked out.
