Powerball jackpot climbs to $1.1 billion

(NBC, KYMA) - The big prize for Monday night's Powerball drawing has climbed to staggering $1.1 billion.

The estimated jackpot has an upfront cash value of $503.4 million before taxes.

It is the second time the multi-state game has reached or surpassed the $1 billion mark this year.

A winner on Monday would take home the sixth-largest jackpot in Powerball history. It would also put an end to the streak of 42 drawings without a winner.

The game underwent a series of changes over the last two decades intended to boost jackpots and appeal to a broader market of ticket buyers.
