Suspect arrested in hit and run on S. Avenue B in Yuma

YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) says a suspect has been arrested in connection to a hit and run in Yuma.

According to a press release, it happened before 5:00 a.m. Saturday in the area of S. Avenue B and W. County 14th Street.

YCSO says the victim was walking on the side of the road when a "passing vehicle struck her and continued without stopping."

The victim, identified as 21-year-old Mariella Acosta of Yuma, was pronounced dead at the scene, YCSO says.

During the investigation, YCSO says the suspect, a 27-year-old man from Somerton, came forward, and was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for "failure to stay at scene with death or injury."

The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information regarding the case, call YCSO at (928) 783-4427, call 78-CRIME to remain anonymous, or visit YCSO's website to submit an anonymous tip.
