Former Sacramento County deputy, suspected of killing son, shot and killed by officers
ELK GROVE, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A former Sacramento County deputy, suspected of killing his 11-year-old son, was shot and killed by officers following an interstate chase.
Police in Elk Grove say the boy's mother called 911 when she saw a confrontation between the boy and his father on security cameras inside the home.
Officers arriving at the scene found the wounded boy and a six-year-old girl. She wasn't hurt, but the boy died at the hospital.
Police say the former deputy, 40-year-old Marvin Morales, was already gone.
When Morales' car was spotted on I-5, officers say he led them on a chase until the California Highway Patrol (CHP) deployed a spike strip, causing Morales to crash.
CHP says officers opened fire, killing Morales, but they haven't said what prompted the shooting.
Morales was fired by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office in January 2024 for drug offenses.
