President Trump formally pardons former president of Honduras
(CNN, KYMA) - President Donald Trump has formally pardoned former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández.
President Trump announced his intention of granting a "full and complete pardon" to former President Hernández last week.
The move erases a major U.S. drug-trafficking conviction for a onetime U.S. ally.
Hernández, who has now been released from prison, was president of Honduras from 2014 to 2022.
In 2024, he was sentenced to 45-years in a U.S. prison on drug trafficking charges. He was also given an $8 million fine.
Hernandez insists he's innocent and was wrongly accused.
Both Republican and Democratic members of Congress have criticized Trump's plan to pardon Hernández.
