California Gov. Gavin Newsom orders state capitol flags to fly at half-staff in wake of birthday party shooting in Stockton
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) ordered flags at the state capitol be flown at half-staff in the wake of Saturday's deadly shooting in Stockton, California.
Gov. Newsom wrote on X Monday saying his "heart is with the families of the victims and the entire Stockton community."
He said flags would be lowered to "honor the children we mourn and stand with the community as it grieves."
Three children, ages eight, nine, 14, and a 21-year-old were among those who were killed after gunfire broke out at a banquet hall on Saturday. 11 others were wounded.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office says a manhunt continues for those who are believed to be responsible for the shooting.
