Doctor and his wife shot and killed at their home in California

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A suicide in San Bernardino County, California may be tied to a double murder in Simi Valley.

The murder victims, a couple in their 60s, were found shot to death inside the garage of their home at about noon Sunday.

Police say they were identified as Dr. Eric Cordes and his wife Vicki.

Neighbors are stunned, with Mike Hylton saying, "It was an ambush type of attack. Um, they had no chance. It was, yeah. Whoever did it, well, I think they know who did it. But they had a purpose, and they did what they set out to do."

As police in Simi Valley investigate the murders, authorities in San Bernardino County are looking into a possible suicide and what they say is its "likely" connection to the killings.

A car matching the description of the one that left the Simi Valley neighborhood was found burned at a park in Chino with the body of a man on the ground beside it.

Detectives are waiting to get a positive ID on that body to see if it could be connected to the couple killed Sunday afternoon.
