ICE detains multiple people in Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CBS, KYMA) - A top Border Patrol commander said 81 people were arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina Saturday.
Video from Gregory Bovino, a Border Patrol official leading operations in several U.S. cities, shows Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detaining multiple people.
Bovino said that many of those taken into custody had "significant criminal and immigration history."
In a video statement, Gov. Josh Stein (D-NC) criticized the actions of ICE agents over the weekend, accusing them of racially profiling innocent people.
"We've seen masked, heavily armed agents in paramilitary garb driving unmarked cars, targeting American citizens based on their skin color, racially profiling and picking up random people in parking lots and off of our sidewalks," he said.
