Jacqueline Smith’s reflection after state golf

Kofa's Jacqueline Smith shared a heartwarming message following her recent trip to the state golf championship

PHOENIX (KYMA) - "My brother Christian, he is the best brother ever. You make me believe in myself, and you push me so hard to be the best. Thank you for teaching me all this stuff. I believed in my shots, and I did that for you."

That was the heartfelt message Kofa junior golfer Jacqueline Smith shared following the state golf championship as the lone representative from Yuma.

She shot a combined score of 169 over two days, tying her personal best on the second day of the tournament with an 84 at the Aguila Golf Course in Phoenix.

Her thanks didn't end with her brother though as Jacqueline continued to thank her support system.

"If you hear this, Coach Jensen or Coach Amanda, or my family that I love you guys," Jacqueline said. "Thank you for supporting me for golf for state."

One of the juniors biggest supporters is her older brother, Christian

"Yeah, it was great hearing that," said Christian. "And it means I'm doing a pretty good job."

Christian says it's important to have someone who motivates you to reach your goals.

"I think there has to be someone in your life that needs to help you and motivate you in what you want to do," he said. "I'm glad I could be that for her."

While Christian has been her biggest supporter, it came down to Jacqueline performing on the golf course and trusting herself.

"My day two, I focused on my shots, they were getting better," Jacqueline said. "I was more confident on my short game, so that's why I saw the difference between day one and day two. I kept telling myself, it's just a normal game, a normal tournament. It's just state. I just told myself to be my game, always be my game."

Now that state is over, Smith turns her attention to the offseason, where she'll continue improving her game heading into her senior year.
