Northern California hunter found after disappearing for nearly three weeks

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - After disappearing for nearly three weeks, a hunter in Northern California, who is lucky to be alive, described his ordeal and what kept him going.

Ronald Dailey headed for what should have been a one-day hunting trip in Sierra National Forest on October 13.

The 65-year-old took a wrong turn and ended up stranded in a snow storm with a broken down truck.

Dailey says he rationed food for about two weeks before setting out on foot, where he fell several times in the steep terrain and eventually lost his phone.

He says leaned heavily on his faith and turned to god for help.

"He told me to look up. And I looked up, and there was a suburban with three gentlemen in it…and they started yelling my name, and they drove up to me…I've never been so happy in my life to see people," Dailey shared.

Dailey was treated in a hospital for dehydration and reunited with his wife. He says this hunting trip may have been his last.
