‘Drowsy driver’ crashes on Wisconsin interstate

PORTAGE, Wisc. (CBS, KYMA) - A "drowsy driver" swerved off a Wisconsin interstate after falling asleep at the wheel on Halloween morning, with the moment caught on police dashcam.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) said the driver was on an extended road trip from Michigan to Minnesota and had tried to drive through the night on only an hour's sleep.

In the footage, the driver is seen swerving into the wide grassy median of the I90/94 near Portage. The driver was uninjured.

"Every year, thousands of crashes are caused by drivers who simply didn't get enough rest," CCSO warned. "Arriving late is better than not arriving at all. Please, make the safe choice - stay alert, stay rested, and keep our roads safe."
