California father who killed his infant son sentenced
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - The father who plead guilty to faking his son's kidnapping, then his murder, was sentenced to life behind bars.
On Monday, Jake Haro was sentenced to life for the murder of his seven month old son Emmanuel and falsifying a police report.
Inside the courtroom, Emmanuel's grandmother, Mary Beushausel, asked the judge to show no mercy for her son-in-law who she says destroyed her entire family.
"He never gave me a chance to see my grandchildren and kept my daughter away...This has been horrible for us," Beushausel expressed.
The case began on August 14 when the boy's parents filed a report saying Emmanuel had been taken from this shopping center in Yucaipa. Back then, the father asking for the community's help to find his son.
One week later, deputies arrested both Jake and Rebecca Haro at their Cabazon home after investigators say there were inconsistencies in their statements.
The search crossed county lines where both Riverside and San Bernardino County Sheriff's spoke out about search for the missing boy that even had detectives combing rural areas along the 60 Freeway.
The boy's remains investigators say still not found.
"What you are dealing with is an experience child abuser that is aware of a previous case," said Shannon Dicus with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office.
Back in 2018, the Riverside County D.A. says the father was convicted of child abuse with his ex wife over another one of their children. In that case, they say the judge ruled probation over prison.
"I was glad the day he got arrested because I feared for my daughter's life and everybody. He had a second chance," Beushausel remarked.
Rebecca Haro has pleaded not guilty to murder.
