Frisky thieves break into Arizona restaurant, police say
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (CNN, KYMA) - A Scottsdale restaurant is dealing with the damage and disturbing behavior after a break-in over the weekend.
Bizarre. Violating. Really just weird. These are the words to describe what security cameras captured at the Mon Cheri Restaurant in Scottsdale Saturday.
"We were just shaken up. It's scary," said Bailee Turner, the restaurant's Assistant General Manager.
Employees opened up Sunday and noticed flowers scattered all over the floor, a torn up cash register and a trashed bar.
It was clearly a break-in, but it wasn't the only crime committed.
"We pulled up the surveillance and we were disturbed and who would do that? That's just gross. We don't want that here. and yeah...just like...why would you do that?" said Caitlyn Sorensen, the server lead at the restaurant.
Video captured shows a man and woman inside a rose photo-op display outside the restaurant just before 4:00 a.m.
The tape is cut short, because a news outlet in the Phoenix area was told that the couple appeared to have sex.
Customers, who were taking pictures in the display Sunday, were shocked.
"I guess we could consider this like a bed so to speak. It's sort of a hideaway if you will, but they had other options...This just doesn't make sense," said Dr. Brenda Combs, a customer.
Managers say after the suspects had sex, they broke into the restaurant, stealing $450, a liquor bottle and a phone.
"It's such a happy and positive place, so the fact that they did that on our establishment is just so disturbing...like this isn't the place for it. Yes, we're full of romance and happiness, but that's not what we're wanting here," Sorensen expressed.
