Yuma Catholic girls and Cibola boys capture titles at Colorado River swim championships
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) -Â The Colorado River Championship brought impressive performances from local swimmers at the Valley Aquatic Center, with Yuma Catholic's girls and Cibola's boys taking home team titles.
The Yuma Catholic High School Girls Swim Team claimed the championship after a dominant showing in both relay and individual events.
The Shamrocks' 200 and 400 Freestyle Relay teams featuring Ryan Webb, Sadie Reyes, Rylee Doak, and Raegyn Doak powered to first-place finishes.
Webb was named the Girls MVP after sweeping her individual races, winning both the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke. Raegyn Doak added two more gold medals in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breaststroke, while Rylee Doak took first in the 500 Freestyle and second in the 200 Free.
Reyes added key points with runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100 Freestyle. Additional contributions came from Abigail Barfield, who placed third in the 500 Free, and teammates Emily Olsen, Olive Robins, Parker Gwynn, Miliani Jerome, and Angela Gaona.
With this title, six Yuma Catholic swimmers have qualified for the AIA Division 3 State Championships in Phoenix on November 7 and 8.
On the boys' side, Cibola dominated to win the team championship, finishing ahead of Gila Ridge.
Rene Herrera earned Most Outstanding Swimmer honors after winning both the 200 and 50 Freestyle events and helping the Raiders secure the 200 Medley Relay title alongside Alfredo Castillo, Lincoln McCall, and Trystan Everson.
McCall also claimed first in the 500 Freestyle, while Daniel Hernandez took top honors in diving. The Raiders sealed their victory with a first-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay, swum by Bert Michel, Luis Lopez, Geovanny Torres, and Matthew Anderson.
Multiple programs now turn their attention to the state championships, where Yuma County's best will look to carry their momentum onto the biggest stage.
