Taylor Swift’s newest album breaks records
(CBS, KYMA) - Taylor Swift's domination continues as her new album, "The Life of a Showgirl," broke this year's single-day streaming record, hitting nearly 250 million first-day streams on Spotify.
The album's companion film crushed it at the box office, earning $33 million this weekend.
This comes as Swift dropped her highly-anticipated music video for the album's opening track, "The Fate of Ophelia."
In her "The Fate of Ophelia" music video, Swift donned elaborate costumes and hairstyles and delivered a cinematic spectacle.
Following its big screen debut, Swift posted the video online on Sunday, which coincided with her football playing fiancée, Travis Kelce's birthday.
It's the opening track to her 12th studio album, "The Life of a Showgirl," inspired by Swift's life during the "Eras Tour" including their whirlwind romance.
"I love that this Taylor, she's in love. Now, she's more sexy. She's not afraid to be herself," said Joy Pangilinan, a Swift fan.
Fans are loving the new music, but among critics, it's garnering some mixed reviews. Billboard called it, "Immediately engrossing…bangers for adults" while The Guardian's critic shaded it saying the album is a "dull razzle-dazzle from a star who seems frazzled."
Over the weekend, Swift appeared on "The Graham Norton Show," with host Graham Norton congratulating her on the engagement while asking if the wedding will take place next year, and Swift said, "Oh you'll know."
