Phoenix Mercury come out flat in the second half in second game of WNBA Finals
LAS VEGAS (KYMA) - The road to championship number four just got a lot harder for the Phoenix Mercury, as they lost Game 2 of the WNBA Finals to the Las Vegas Aces 91-78.
If the beginning of the game was any indication of how the game would go, the Mercury would have won with ease. They started the game on a 7-0 run, but that would dissipate throughout the quarter.
As the old adage goes, basketball is a game of runs, and the Aces would take their turn with 10 unanswered points to take an 18-16 lead before Phoenix head coach Nate Tibbetts had to call a timeout with 3:17 left in the first quarter.
Into the second quarter Alyssa Thomas finished a layup to regain a 31-24 lead. By the end of the first half the Aces would have a firm grasp on the scoreboard, much in due to A'ja Wilson who finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds.
The Aces great shooting proved to be too much in the second half as they were never truly threatened by the Mercury for the rest of the game.
Satou Sabally and Kahleah Copper combined for 55 points for Phoenix but little production came from the rest of the team.
The Mercury will now have a chance to regather and claim a win at home on Wednesday, in what can be considered a must-win game.
