Tracking stronger winds and cooler temperatures starting Friday
An area of low-pressure system will dive into the Desert Southwest starting Friday and into the weekend, leading to breezy conditions and cooler temperatures.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - It's another calm and quiet day! We had highs in the mid and upper 90s, which is pretty seasonable for early October.
Heading into the evening, we have nice and pleasant weather staying with us. Great weather to spend time on the patio or open your windows. Overnight lows will cool down into the mid and low 60s by tomorrow morning.
An area of low-pressure system will dive into the Desert Southwest starting Friday and into the weekend, leading to breezy conditions and cooler temperatures.
We will have strong westerly winds moving into the Desert Southwest on Friday afternoon with gusts 20-35 MPH. Stronger winds will favor toward the west.
Strongest and more widespread winds will be in the late afternoon evening where blowing dust could be possible. Take a look below.
Breezy conditions will carry through Saturday afternoon where gusts could still reach up to 25 MPH.
A Wind Advisory is issued and will go into effect at 3 p.m. Friday until midnight Saturday morning for the Southwest corner of Imperial County.
Those included in this advisory will have strong west winds with gusts up to 40 MPH. Be safe and drive with caution during those hours.
Temperatures will cool into the low 90s and even upper 80s this weekend. If you are heading to Tacos and Tunes, temperatures will be great, but it will be a little breezy.

MONSOON RECAP: Monsoon season started off slow but turned much wetter from late August through September. Much of our region ended the season with above-normal precipitation. Here are the official monsoon rainfall totals at select locations across our forecasted areas.
As you can see, both Yuma and El Centro had ABOVE-NORMAL rainfall.
DROUGHT UPDATE: With the wet weather, we have also seen a huge improvement in our drought conditions. Yuma County is sitting at an 11.79% of extreme drought conditions. A significant difference is when we are looking at the severe drought conditions. Last week, Yuma County was at 87% severe drought, and this week we dropped to 34.91%, which is an 52.01% drop from last week.
Looking at Imperial County last week, they were at 32.97% with severe drought, and now they are sitting at a 24.46% so this is a 8.51% difference from last week.
