October 1 marks eighth anniversary of Las Vegas music festival mass shooting
(NBC, KYMA) - October 1 marks the eighth anniversary of the Las Vegas mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival.
58 people were killed and hundreds of people were injured in the Las Vegas Strip shooting.
Organizers in Las Vegas are working on a memorial they hope will open in time for the tenth anniversary.
"It's important to tell our story from all the perspectives. It's important to remember and honor the lives we lost and everyone that has been impacted," said Karessa Royce, a survivor.
"We all wish it would have never happened, but it did. We took the worst of that and turned it into something beautiful and resilient. We owe it to all the people that were there and our community to build something that portrays that," said Kelly McMahill, former Deputy Chief of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
